The effect of global warming on the glaciers in the Swiss Alps

Photos of the Rhone Glacier, compare the old picture from around 1913 and the new one below taken 2006 and you see how much ice has melted away already, the hole lower part of this glacier is gone already left behind only the carved naked stones. Only in the hot summer of 2003 about 5 to10% of the hole ice cap in the alps melted away. This year 2006 with an extreme mild autumn has according to some reports the effect that some glaciers lost up to 9 meters in thickness since July. Photo below by Urs Hauenstein
